How Virtual Imprints got started
As owner of Whiskers At Home, LLC (a pet sitting company), Jessica Dwyer's biggest challenge has been employee reliability. A particularly upsetting case occurred in October, 2012. A dishonest employee lied about carrying out her responsibilities of dog walking for a few clients. Even greater than the disappointment Jessica felt was the worry that those clients would lose their trust in the company. Their dogs were important parts of their lives and this vital service of walking them regularly had been neglected. Thankfully, Jessica was able to regain their trust by providing instant, honest communication with them; a refund of their money; and assurance that the dog walker was fired. She personally made sure that all the dogs continued to be walked.
Because of this incident, and because of the likelihood it could happen again, she decided that a long-term solution for problems like this needed to be developed. In October of 2012, she enlisted her friend Jack, who is a software developer, to design a quality assurance system.
Jessica is the owner of Whiskers At Home, LLC, a pet sitting and dog walking company, founded in June, 2009 (www.whiskersathome.com). At first, the company offered midday dog walking, dog sitting, overnight sitting and daily cat sitting. Within a year Jessica was inundated with pet sitting requests and worked 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. To share the workload, Jessica hired her first employee in 2010. By 2012, Whiskers At Home had almost 300 clients and 10 employees. In 2013, Jessica made the decision to care for cats exclusively and reinvented Whiskers At Home. Because of the company's excellence and Jessica's skills and forward thinking innovations, Whiskers At Home received the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters (NAPPS) 2015 Business of the Year award.
Jessica has had a long history of volunteering with NAPPS, (www.petsitters.org) first as the Volunteer Coordinator and then as a NAPPS board member from 2010 to 2013. Since May, 2009, Jessica has volunteered with Purrfect Pals, www.purrfectpals.org , a large cat shelter with an adoption site located in the Bellevue, Washington PetSmart store. She has four kitties in her family: Leo 16 years old, originally from Chicago; Salvestor 13 years old, from Detroit; Eddy 8 years old, from Georgia; and Libby 4 years old, from Washington.
